COATING (DUAL OR SINGLE COMPOUND)

For Modified Bitumen Membrane Production

COATING

Dual or Single Compound

Coating is the stage in the modified bitumen membrane process where the asphalt blend is applied into a consistent layer over the reinforcement). After the reinforcement enters the coater, the asphalt is introduced and spread across the width using controlled application methods that help guide and level the material. This allows the coating to build evenly across the sheet while maintaining full coverage and proper bonding to the carrier.

As the material moves through this stage, the coating is continuously managed to keep it uniform from edge to edge—helping control thickness, surface smoothness, and overall consistency. This steady, repeatable process not only forms the structure of the membrane but also prepares it for the next steps, such as surfacing or cooling. By keeping the coating stable and evenly distributed, manufacturers can produce membranes that handle predictably in both production and installation without overcomplicating the process.
