The pattern cutter is where the continuous sheet is cut into the defined shingle format. As the material enters this section, it passes between a rotating cutting cylinder and an anvil roll. The cutting cylinder—mounted within a precisely aligned carriage—carries knives positioned to define the desired shingle pattern. As the cylinder rotates in sync with the line speed, the knives cut the moving sheet and create a consistent, repeatable profile.
Depending on the product being produced, the pattern cutter can be configured to cut finished three-tab shingles, or to cut patterned strips that move on to the laminator for the production of laminated shingles. Complete carriage assemblies can be prepared offline and exchanged as needed, allowing for efficient pattern changes or maintenance without extended disruption to production.
Reichel & Drews pattern cutters are engineered for precision, durability, and repeatable cut quality in continuous operation. The rigid carriage system maintains consistent positioning between the cutting cylinder and the anvil roll, supporting tight tolerances, long knife life, and clean, accurate cuts across the full width of the sheet. The result is consistent cut quality, improved uptime, and the flexibility to produce a wide range of shingle designs.
